A brahmachari literally means being a bachelor without any family bondages. Brahmacharyam begins at the age of seven when the person is required to enter into the gurudom as a spiritual student.
The purpose of becoming a spiritual student is to realize the spirit within (Aham Brahmasmi). This is the spiritual journey of a student (seeker) along with the guru to reach the goal. During this journey, the individual is not supposed to refrain from any kind of bondages that can retard the speed of the journey or disrupt the journey abruptly. Thereby, the seeker is not supposed to marry.
In the spiritual path of brahmacharyam, the soul or athman in the brahmachari expands to the stage of Brahman. The focus is always directed towards attaining the goal early which means following all the disciplines in the spiritual journey till realization. This cannot be accomplished if the path is deviated towards attending to the worldly affairs with duty, responsibility, commitments and bondages as brahmacharyam demands giving up all worldly responsibilities during the spiritual journey. When the athman becomes Brahman, the condition of athman is lost in the brahmachari and the status of the seeker changes from brahmachari to Brahman. The Guru teaches positivity to brahmacharis to become Brahman. All negative qualities and tendencies are eradicated from the minds of the seekers. They are required to totally avoid consuming intoxicants in order to experiencing bliss during the stage of Samadhi. They should not confuse between intoxication and the state of mental bliss attained in the path of spirituality. Also the seekers are required to maintain their health by avoiding anomalous foods.
In olden days, the brahmacharis were revered because of their mental purity and positive perceptions they possessed. In spirituality, maintaining the condition of Brahmacharyam is very difficult since initially they won't get the help of Shivam to destroy their negativities from time to time. They have to reach higher condition to get the help from Shivam. But in Shivality, maintaining the status of Brahmacharyam is not mandatory as long as the seekers are mentally detached from attachments, bondages, commitments and responsibilities in spite of being in the midst of the worldly life as they are connected to Shivaguru.
The uniqueness of Shivality is that the seekers can be in brahmacharyam in spite of being in family life. This advantage is because of the destruction of the mental negativities by the power of Shivaguru regularly from time to time. But Shivagurus are rare to be found in this world and the seekers should not miss the opportunity when available!
